Letter To My Children Free Essays
As I lay awake in bed with Carol by my side, sharing my insomnia, it occurred to me, totally out of the blue, that Neo had opened up for me a new world of understanding, which is to say that my conversation with him had led me to the realization that there was a way out of my conflicts here and now.à I was being selfish aforetime: it occurred to me.à Although I could not go to the Vatican all the way from America in order to express my new understanding of Christianity ââ¬â rather than to pose questions that the authorities on religion there were not expected to appreciate ââ¬â I could express myself before my children, as though nakedly. We will write a custom essay sample on Letter To My Children or any similar topic only for you Order Now But what would I teach them?à I certainly did not wish to confuse them by sharing my conflicts. à Neither did I desire for them to catch on my negative emotions surrounding the wonderful truths I was learning my entire life.à One such negative emotion was my slight fear of various authorities on religion because I could not get over my miserable misunderstandings with them.à I understood that the authorities on religion are meant to be peacemakers, and yet I could not see eye to eye with them on many issues of peace, which, in my awareness, is often a result of increased knowledge and new understanding of faith. These misunderstandings, I knew, were tormenting me alone, while they slept soundly night after night.à I recalled then the words of Jesus, virtually unaware at the time that Carol had started to sing in bed a song from the film, Evita: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. à Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled (Gospelà of Matthew, Chapter 5, Verses 3-6). Did I have to share myself with the various authorities on religion in order to find peace?à I did not believe so.à All the same, my torment was asking me to somehow stand in front of the whole wide world and declare myself to be a true seeker of truth.à Then, and only then, I thought, would I find peace. à However, it was impossible for me to stand on the stage before the entire Christian world and declare myself to be true. à As soon as I realized that my mind was straying away from my children, I said ââ¬Å"Yes.â⬠à Carol asked me right away, ââ¬Å"What?â⬠à ââ¬Å"Oh, nothing,â⬠I said.à ââ¬Å"I am enjoying your song!â⬠à Carol continued singing from that point on. I got back to my reflections through insomnia.à I thought that I knew that I could die very soon, and I did not have the kind of oneness Jesus experienced with God Almighty to know when.à I could express my understanding to my children ââ¬â yes I could do that, I thought again ââ¬â and my children in turn would develop their own understanding of religion based on my teachings and their own experiences in life. As I lay in bed reflecting on the new questions that had perhaps occurred to me through supernatural inspiration, it did not take me long to figure out what exactly I would be teaching my children and how.à I would write a letter to them, directing Carol to deliver it to them onlyà when they have all reached maturity at the same time.à I would not want one child wanting to know more than the others at any given time.à I would like them to grow in spirituality altogether.à I did not want them to have to go through the experience of single handedly dealing with the problems of realizing the truth as I did.à I did not want them to feel as alone in the world as I felt. But perhaps I would eventually leave the letter in Carolââ¬â¢s hand to decide when to give it to each of my kids, I thought.à I was ââ¬Å"hungering and thirsting after righteousness.â⬠à I knew that expressing my understanding of the religion to my children would grant me a sense of completion from the Almighty ââ¬â somehow.à I did not know how He worked on such completions. By the time I had reached this point in my train of thoughts, I realized that Carol had gone to sleep.à Her singing was over and done with; she was snoring, in fact.à I suddenly realized a sense of greater freedom in my thoughts.à Increased confidence was aroused to boot.à Although I knew that Jesus had said, ââ¬Å"Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousnessââ¬â¢ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heavenâ⬠(Matthew, Chapter 5, Verse 10), I neither had the strength nor the courage to stand before the world and discuss my concept of religion.à I should have had the courage, I thought, but sadly, I did not.à I then realized that perhaps this kind of courage is unnecessary, given that Jesus had also said: ââ¬Å"Agree with thine adversary quickly, lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prisonâ⬠(Matthew, Chapter 5, Verse 25). Was Jesus right there with me to teach me something of the essence?à How was it that verses from the Gospel of Matthew were appearing in my self without notice, and perhaps out of context?à I got out of bed then, with the awareness that I had the courage to teach my understanding of Christianity to my children, even if I could not teach the whole world.à Yet I did not want to express my entire self to my children.à I only believed that they had a right to know the basics that I was working with.à I believed in their right to question religious practices of the world.à I also trusted that they would eventually find the truth using the tools I would provide them with. I turned on the lamp on my desk.à Carol moved a little in bed, responding to the click of the lamp.à Fortunately, she did not get up to ask what I was up to.à I did not want to bother her at all, and so I sat down to write, as though in a whisper: ââ¬Å"Dear children,à à By this time you must be old enough to feel the need to know God.à You will be exposed to many practices in the Churchâ⬠¦.â⬠à I gave up writing at this point, tore the page in half, and took a fresh sheet of paper to begin again. ââ¬Å"Dear Children,à For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢But I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire. ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee, ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy giftââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Matthew, Chapter 5, Verses 20-24). I comprehended what I was doing.à Comparing the Pharisees and the scribes to the majority of religious authorities in the world, I was directing my children to go to the scriptures whenever they require guidance from the divine authority.à I did not have another way of teaching them the truth.à I wanted to say that they must never go to any religious authorities except the scriptures in the process of seeking truth; and that they must be good to each other, no matter what. I had written the words of Jesus in my memory with great enthusiasm.à And I did not doubt that my children could ââ¬â given the right direction ââ¬â show equal respect to the word of righteousness.à Yet I doubted whether I should tell them everything about the Church as it existed in the world today. I gave a moment of attention to Carol at this point.à She was snoring, fast asleep, and looking lovely.à I thought with tenderness that her children were mine, and I had a right to teach them whatever I felt I must.à I did not have to mention the Church and the circumstances surrounding my role in it that very day.à It was not important, given that the circumstances surrounding the Church were expected by me to change, perhaps drastically, in the years of my offspringââ¬â¢s maturity. I went back to my letter.à Without explaining myself in it, besides the purpose of my letter, I felt that I had to write something else I remembered from the Gospel of Matthew:à ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sightââ¬â¢ (Chapter 11, Verses 25-26). Confident in my writing, I continued:à ââ¬Å"My dear children, after reading the above scriptures you must be thinking that perhaps I felt in my years in Church that these are some of the most perfect verses in the Gospels.à As a matter of fact, I did not think so.à And the only reason I am writing you today is that I want you to learn how to trust yourselves in seeking the truth.à The scriptures are the best guidance I can offer you now.à Hold on to them, learn from them, and do not mind questioning the practices of othersà when you do not believe them to be correct.à This is, in my opinion, the best attitude to take into maturity.à Let us leave the rest in Godââ¬â¢s hand.à ââ¬Å"Your loving father on earth.â⬠How to cite Letter To My Children, Essay examples

Natalie Rodriguez Essays - English-language Films, Film, Theatre
Natalie Rodriguez English 102 Professor Insolera 6 February 2017 A Raisin in the Sun This play starts off in a small apartment with a family five, Walter Lee, Ruth, Beneatha, Lena, and Travis. These people are waiting for their life to change. After having the youngest child, Travis sleeping on the couch Ruth wanted her life to change, especially Walter the husband. Walter Younger can be really hard to get along with. For most of the first act, he's nasty to just about every other character in the play. He picks fights with his sister, Beneatha. He says all kinds of mean things to Ruth, his wife, and is even short with his long-suffering mother, Lena. All this nastiness seems to come from the fact that Walter is totally disgusted with his life. Working as a chauffeur for a rich white man has got him totally dissatisfied. There's no room for advancement, and he hates having to suck up to his boss all the time. Basically, Walter feels like less of a man, because he's in his thirties and can still barely provide for his family. The only time Walter seems to get excited in the early sections of the play is when there's talk of the $10,000 life insurance check (Walter's father has died) that's soon to come in the mail. Walter plans to use the money to invest in a liquor store with his "buddy," Willy Harris. He sees this investment as an opportunity to be his own boss and to finally provide for his family the way he feels he should. Everybody tries to warn Walter against investing in the liquor store. Ruth tells her husband that he shouldn't trust Willy Harris. And Lena, a devout Christian, thinks it is sinful to sell liquor. Lena even flat out refuses to give the money to Walter at first; the insurance policy is in her name, so she has control over it. Instead of giving her son the money for the liquor store, Walter's mother takes a portion and puts a down payment on a house in a white neighborhood. This sends Walter into the depths of despair. He goes on a three-day drinking binge and refuses to go to work. Eventually, Lena gives in and lets Walter have a big chunk of what's left to invest however he sees fit. She also trusts her son to put some of the money in a bank account so that Beneatha can go to medical school. Walter doesn't do this, however, and just hands it all over to Willy Harris for the liquor store. At this point in the play, we get a glimpse of who Walter would be if he was happier with his work life. He's friendly to his sister, hugs his mother, and even takes his wife out on a date, where they get super-frisky and hold hands. The Walter that we see here is a loveable, friendly, family man. Unfortunately, this just doesn't last. Everybody's doubts about the liquor store investment are proven right when Willy takes off with all the money. Things get really bad here. Earlier, Mr. Lindner, a white man from the new neighborhood, tried to pay the Youngers not to move into their new house. Back when Walter was on top, he proudly kicked Mr. Lindner out and told him that they didn't need his money. Now, though, Walte r is desperate he sinks to a new low and calls Mr. Lindner back, saying that he'll accept the money. Walter tells his family that he's prepared to bow down to "The Man" to get the money. This is really Walter's lowest point in the whole play. He's prepared to totally shame himself for the money. In the end, though, Walter is redeemed when he eventually refuses to take the money from Mr. Lindner. When the white man returns, Lena forces Walter to talk to him in front of Travis, Walter's young son. Walter just can't bring himself to act so shamefully in front of Travis. In the end, Walter finds his self-respect and leads his family on to their new house. Although Walter makes the worst mistakes out of any other character in the play, he

Before You Buy an Inventors Log Book
Before You Buy an Inventors Log Book An inventors log book is used to record the progress of your inventing. You should start using one the moment you think of an idea for an invention. However, your log book must be of a certain type. You can buy a specially printed inventors log book. You can also buy a generic bound notebook. The most important thing is that the pages of the notebook cannot be added or subtracted without that being evident. Before Buying Specially Printed Log Books Look for sequentially pre-printed numbered pages, fade-away backgrounds, spaces for you and a witness to sign date, and instructions on how to use the journal. Look for pages with blue-lined grids for easy drawing. Some log books have special copy features; copy drawings on a light copier setting and the grid pattern fades away for preparing patent application drawings, or copy the drawings on a dark setting and the words, Do Not Reproduce appears for confidence usage. Inventors NotebooksScientific Journal Generic Bound Notebooks Never buy a loose leaf notebook. Never buy 3-ring binders to use as a log book. Never buy a legal pad or any glued together notebook. Buy a notebook with pages as secure as possible - a bound or sewn notebook. Mead brand composition books are perfect. Buy only notebooks with white pages - the lines can be colored blue or black. Mead Composition Notebooks Generic Ledger Books These common and inexpensive ledger books can also be used as a log book. The same considerations given to bound notebooks will apply - bound books only. Remember you have to buy a separate log book for each different idea, so inexpensive is sometimes the way to go. Foucault's Discipline and punish Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Foucault's Discipline and punish - Essay Example an organic group of individuals who have supposedly internalized a set of society (or community) acknowledged norms, rules, regulations and values through other disciplinary organizations (Erlandson 21). ââ¬ËBodyââ¬â¢ occupies a crucial part in Foucaultââ¬â¢s social disciplinary theory. Since punishment cannot be non-corporal, the goal of modern punishment system should be to produce ââ¬Ëdocile bodyââ¬â¢ through continuous regulation and supervision. A ââ¬Ëdocile bodyââ¬â¢ is supposed to be dominated by an individualââ¬â¢s soul. So, modern penal system must focus on the reform of the individualââ¬â¢s soul. For Foucault, ââ¬Ësoulââ¬â¢ is an individualââ¬â¢s psychic mechanism which regulates the actions and behaviors of the ââ¬Ëbodyââ¬â¢ in response to and in accordance with the demands of the existing political power or the regime of power and knowledge (Foucault, ââ¬Å"Power/Knowledgeâ⬠, 18). Since ââ¬Ëbodyââ¬â¢ is the subject of ââ¬Å"political technologyâ⬠, modern society is endowed with a penal system which helps the body or the individual to create or reprogrammed a soul which, internalizing the fear of punishment, overpowers a docile body. For Foucault, the internalized prison is much stronger than the one, built of concrete. Foucaultââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Discipline and Punishmentâ⬠is, indeed, dedicated to explaining the modern penal system. Referring to the public corporal execution and punishment of the delinquents on the scaffold during ancient and medieval ages, Foucault argues that punishment was not only judicial but also political. Punishment as a political ritual was aimed to let the public body internalize the fear of the King or political authority as the authority of the individualââ¬â¢s body. According to him, the focus of punishment, as a more generalized form ââ¬ËDisciplineââ¬â¢, shifted from ââ¬Ëbodyââ¬â¢ to ââ¬Ësoulââ¬â¢ during the Reform Movement in Europe. Through social disciplinary institutions, people were supposed to internalize the panoptic presence of power. During the modern age, ââ¬Å"The

CYBER ATTACKS ON ENERGY AND FINANCIAL SECTOR Thesis Proposal
CYBER ATTACKS ON ENERGY AND FINANCIAL SECTOR - Thesis Proposal Example US Financial sector is largest in the world and billions of dollars are transacted through this system not only within US but also across the border. The relative penetration of the financial system into the very fabric of American society therefore gives financial sector a more critical place within the modern American society. With the advances in technology, most of the transactions in the financial sector take place online with the help of the internet and other information technology tools. Such high dependence on the information technology therefore makes the system highly vulnerable to the external threats including the cyber attacks. Similarly, the energy sector is critical for the survival of the country because most of the manufacturing and our daily activity is supported by this sector. A complete collapse of this system therefore will put the country as stand still and probably no economic activity can be conceived without the support of the energy sector. Another important dimension of the cyber spying on the energy sector is basically to extract important information regarding the potential energy deposits which US companies explore all over the world and a systematic attack on this information therefore can cost Billions to US economy if it goes into wrong hands. It is believed that Chinese hackers are trying to intrude into the systems of the energy companies with specific target of extracting the important data on the oil and gas exploration. (Yemma, 2010) These arguments therefore indicate that any type of cyber attacks on these two sectors can be significant from the point of view of the homeland security. Easy access to technology and significant improvement in the knowledge base of the cyber criminals and terrorists, it is really easy to conceive a cyber attack of any magnitude on both these sectors. It is therefore, really critical a pro-active approach to be adapted by the security agencies of US including homeland

TRS Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
TRS - Essay Example In addition, humanity gets a deeper understanding of God through the saints. Interestingly, these saints are a reflection of colors needed within the church. For example, saint Francis of Assisi speaks of truths concerning God. However, he does not entirely reflect the fullness of God hence the need for other saints. In summary, saints are a part of the church and are a connecting point between God and human beings. It is quite interesting that the saints reflect color to the church. Moreover, they enable the church have a deeper understanding of God. This is interesting because saints are more of a churchââ¬â¢s ideology. Arguably, no one but God knows the real state of the hurts of men. Additionally, one could never know the real intentions of the hearts of people. Arguably, saints are considered by the acts. On the other hand, they reflect light, which may not be understandable to humanity unless deeply rooted in the practices of Catholicism. In summary, Catholics hold saints in high

Theories of Management in Small Businesses
Theories of Management in Small Businesses A Stationery Business Small businesses nowadays find it very hard to survive. Everyone is forced to embrace new changes in the environment he lives in due to global economy. Individuals in the work place are the basis of the performance of an organization, especially with the knowledge they bring along. In todays society, organizations are expected to provide the best quality available. This is where management takes place. Managers ensure the workers are using their energy to the maximum by supporting them, and also monitoring the environment to make sure the organization is maximizing its performance (Porter 1998). Management is made up of four parts which are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Managers in the modern world must gain human and technical skills to succeed in the business world, as they must take risky decisions at some point. This essay talks about the four topics of management: workplace, management history, organization environment, and international organization. The essay also talks about a business idea to be formed at the UWA business school where it will use the different points. To take advantage of the workers, employers should help them by providing a relaxing work environment which respects work-life balance and which offers rewards. Nowadays, work requirements changed. They require employees have a set of skills in order to gain value in an organization( Evans 2015) . In addition, individuals in an organization must learn new technology skills, because nowadays, the internet is modifying the structure of organizations. For an organization to survive in the competitive world, it must offer quality services to the society which would lead to satisfied customers. This is how the performance of an organization is determined. The manager reviews the performance of an organization and makes decisions and certain changes so that the organization functions as planned and to reach the desired vision. To achieve that, the management process must be applied. It is made up of 4 steps (Cheng 2010). The first step is planning, where the manager states the goals that n eed to be reached. The second step is controlling which is done by monitoring the performance of the organization and comparing it to the results. The third step is organizing by allocating resources and giving roles to employees and groups. The last step is leading. Managers encourage the workers to do their best so that goals can be reached. Despite the fact that businesses are obliged to adapt to the new changing environments, managements history must not be ignored. Management can be approached in many ways that have evolved over time (Kilmann 1986).Ãâà Classical approach notes that universal work ethics are used in various states of management. The behavioural approach concludes that the worker is an important asset of the organization and plays a vital role in its performance, that is why, workers are given rewards and easy work schedules. The third approach is quantitative and it relies on math and complex calculations such as mathematical forecasting to take final decisions. The modern approach is the latest one and it states that organizations must adapt to the constant change of the environment and peoples needs. In the modern worlds, organizations need to be ahead of the game, monitoring any changes in the environment and to act immediately (Spicer 2011). That is why organizations must have a clear vision of its goals in order to succeed in a competitive world. Organizations have internal and external environments. Internal environments form the culture inside the organization which shapes its personality and how the people inside interact with each other. The external environment focuses on the external variables that directly affect the organization, such as the customers, or economy or laws governing the country (Borrello 2015). Organizations who embrace a robust culture insideÃâà perform much better than others because its workers respect each other and the business ensures everyone is equal. Everyone is paid the same and treated the same regardless of their race and cultural differences. International management was found when organizations were created in different countries around the world (Ohmae 1996). The global manager is aware of every organization and its environment. However, the international business is affected by the global economy since countries and economies have become interdependent. Organizations who are willing to become international, must acquire skills related to export and import, in addition to sourcing (Kramar 2001). I have decided to open a stationery in the UWA Business school. The reason for this is because students do not have enough time to go outside the campus and purchase their stationery needs. In addition, students will always need to buy books, copybooks and other study material. This will save time and will provide low prices to students with a Student ID. The stationery will provide new technologies such as wireless printing and digital printing cards so that students can print before even coming to the store, thus, saving more time. Employees will be university students who are passionate about helping other students with their research or materials of study. That is why the workers at my business will be given routine trainings to ensure they gain new skills. They will be given rewards for helping more students, and a flexible work schedule to study at the university and work at the same time. The performance of the business will be monitored and changes will be done based on the o utcome. Changes can be introducing new services such as graphic design services and even coupons which offer cheaper prices. In conclusion, the performance of an organization is determined by different managerial processes. Customers expect businesses to always provide perfect quality of product or service. However, this can be fulfilled only if the organization takes care of its people and supports their talents. Managers must ensure that employees are learning new skills especially in the technology field since the internet has changed the equations and everything has become connected together. Managers role is to set a clear vision for the organization and to monitor the results of a certain plan, then compare the results with the performance in order to perform the necessary changes within an organization. Dell :: essays research papers
Brief Background Summary à à à à à How would you like to take a $1,000 investment to start a company and turn it into 41 billion dollars revenue producing enterprise in just twenty years? Iââ¬â¢m sure everyone would, but it became a reality for one man, Michael Dell. Michael Dell is the current CEO of Dell, Inc, one of the largest companies in the world. He started this company back in 1984 with just $1,000 at the age of 19 and now at the age of 39 he is the fourth richest man in America. (DuBrin 313) ââ¬Å"Mr. Dell became the youngest CEO of a company to have their company ranked in Fortune 500. (Dell Annual Report) Today, Dell Inc. is ranked incredibly number 125. à à à à à Dell Inc., which is located at Building 2 One Dell Way, Round Rock, Texas, is one of the premier companies in computer products and services. The company current employs approximately 46,000 people and is the ââ¬Å"biggest online seller of computers. Dellââ¬â¢s primary products include enterprise systems, household PCs and notebook computers. They are also currently trying to expand their way into the printer market even further. à à à à à He started with the idea of taking plain computers and adding parts to it to make it a more appealing to computers buyers. ââ¬Å"Dell hired a small staff and began selling his machines over the phone and through the mail. Several years later he created the industryââ¬â¢s first on-site service program, in which the repair technician visits your office or home.â⬠(DuBrin 313) Problem Identification à à à à à In creating a multi-billion dollar company there were issues and problems that had to be identified and made. In being such a rapid growing company, Mr. Dell had to fill up his company with top professionals and visionaries that could continue the success. The company needed to find ways to stay competitive and stay focused on their vision. For a company to stay growing at the pace they were, which was about 50 percent a year in the 90ââ¬â¢s, it needed to continue to add strong employees and keep the motivation going. à à à à à In the computer market there are a lot of competitors, just waiting for someone to make a mistake. The fight over market share is very competitive. Dell needs to stay very aware of their business competition and what they are doing. I think that Dell has done very well picking up most of the trends and consumer needs to come out with new ideas, to stay on top.

Federalists Essay
Linda Kerber described the predicaments of the Federalists, a political party whose members feared that popular democracy might spin out of control. Although they both fostered economic development, the Federalists were aware that an urban grassroots would result. The believers of the Federalist Party believed that Jeffersonââ¬â¢s approach to politics was naive. The early stages of industrialization and urban growth were providing the ingredients of a working class; already existing was an unpredictable class of permanently poor who might well be available for mob action. The God or the religious beliefs of the Federalists often appeared to behave like a fourth branch of Government. They believed that religious obligation would reinforce moral obligation and would make popular government orderly and stable. On the other hand the Jeffersonian supporters felt they should break down the barrier of habitual morality (religion), with the interruption of education, habit and superstitions they were confident they would have a more positive vice. Drew R. McCoy spoke of ââ¬Å"The Fears of the Jeffersonian Republicansâ⬠. Jefferson and his supporters predicted the challenges for the future of the United States. They were fearful of creating a dependent class; he envisioned huge tracts of land being farmed by righteous residents of the young republic. In keeping their independence from the British they encouraged production ââ¬Å"within our familiesâ⬠, but for the finer manufactures, they would continue to rely on importations from abroad. New forms of employment needed to be created in order to keep the moral and political advantages of America up. The largest fears were of an uprising of the working class people and independent revolutions. Ben Franklin recognized that corruption could result from both natural and artificial causes. Jefferson was always faced with the reality of his plan failing constantly reminded by the thought of the decline of the Roman Empire. I found this Chapter to be the hardest to read, I researched other sources to understand and get through the politics of this chapter. I found the internet website www. answers. com/topic/republicans-jeffersonian to be most helpful. The reading and rational was made for the freshman U.à S. History student. I was able to acknowledge the fact that the Federalists Convention was the process of breaking free from the British Empire. By the mid-eighteenth century a large proportion of adult white males in the colonies possessed the suffrage while also enjoying the privileges of a free press and some freedom of religious worship The colonies in other words, had grown apart from the mother country, their inhabitants had begun to think of themselves as Americans, and, not surprisingly, they proved unreceptive to attempts to bring them to strengthen.

Creating TV Drama Essay
ââ¬Å"The Public Defendersâ⬠ââ¬â We all know about the lives of top-league lawyers who rake in millions of dollars settling class action suits or representing celebrity clients. We all also realize, somewhere back in our minds that for every high-priced lawyer whoââ¬â¢s working to spin celebrity ââ¬Å"Q-ratingsâ⬠and turn high-profile crimes into high-tax bracket success, there are ten public defenders (PDââ¬â¢s) sweating out in the innards of some state or federal building, working for peanuts to save the dregs of society from an indifferent and often unjust legal system . ââ¬Å"The Public Defendersâ⬠chronicles the toll that long hours and short pay take on the personal lives of four PDââ¬â¢s who walk a tightrope of action and suspense while balancing their self-sacrificing professional lives with their all-too-self-absorbed sex lives and driving ambitions. The viewer enters the world of ââ¬Å"The Public Defendersâ⬠from the vantage point of the common citizen: first glimpsing the four PDââ¬â¢s in their professional roles. Each episode begins with four short but conflict-heavy ââ¬Å"teasersâ⬠ââ¬Ë representing the beginnings of four distinct, but sometimes interweaving cases. The bulk of each weekââ¬â¢s episode is devoted to the resolution of the four cases, by each of the PDââ¬â¢s respectively. In some episodes, a case will be left ââ¬Å"hangingâ⬠to be resolved in a later episode or episodes. As in real life, the PDââ¬â¢s will often represent the same client or clients on repeated cases and it is likely that many defendants and clients of the PDââ¬â¢s will become running fixtures as minor characters throughout the seriesââ¬â¢ entirety. Each of the PDââ¬â¢s: Emmanuel Gonzalez: a young Yale graduate who chose to work in the trenches, student Jonathan Smith: a closet alcoholic, Sara Kentowitz: a compassionate but highly sexual do-gooder, and Joann Bonier: an ambitious but flawed attorney, becomes embroiled with their clients, often in sexual or romantic entanglements and sometimes, events unfold so rapidly and chaotically that the PDââ¬â¢s themselves may cross the lines of legality. The plot-lines for specific episodes are based on showcasing the thin line between subjectivity and objectivity. The scripts will show blatantly that attorneys are anything but neutral when it comes to pushing their cases and working for their clients. Instead they are either emotionally engaged or coldly indifferent form the start of their cases and their professional work shows the degree to which they are personally engaged, invested, and interested in their clients. Ongoing plot-lines which thread through all the episodes will help to flesh out the characters and add a linear narrative dimension to the episodic format. Emmanuel is dealing with the process of a complicated divorce from his wife of 7 years, coupled with a child custody battle while his soon to be ex-wife is dealing with extreme alcoholism. He is also defending a repeat offender on trial for murdering his brother. Sara deals with an abusive husband while defending a 16 year-old being charged with rape. Jonathan is scheduled to go before the disciplinary committee for a hearing followed by an altercation in court, and is currently the sole care-giver for is aging parents. His father is showing symptoms of the early stages of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s. His mother suffers with depression. Joann, who is single, struggles to balance her work-load with the needs of her co-workers and her desire to have a personal life. Each of these over-arching plot lines will continue to spin threads and exert influence over the individual episodes which, as previously mentioned, may or may not resolve individual plot-lines. To allow our targeted viewing audience to connect and identify with the characters, The Public Defender will be filmed in courtrooms, jail cells and in the homes of our characters, giving an in-depth real life feel for the struggles that the characters are dealing with. In stark contrast the ââ¬Å"personalâ⬠scenes will be filmed in a romantic idealized style which emphasizes hope and humanity. The sub-text of these visual contrasts is that the shows characters draw their inspiration to keep fighting from their real life relationships and not from law-books or high-flying principles. In fact , The PDââ¬â¢s are willing to subvert principles and even laws to win cases that have moved them or touched them personally because they have to do so to win. The deck is stacked against them: the are over-worked, under-trained, and representing those who are least able to defend themselves. The depth of the real life affects on the characters is intended to attract eductaed audiences of a predominantly mature demographic. The target audience would be compatible with that of ââ¬Å"Law and Orderâ⬠or ââ¬Å"West Wing. â⬠However, many of the shows minor characters and sub-plots will be devoted to youthful issues and themes which impact younger people, so it hoped that 18-25 year-old college students may also find the show worthy of attention. Crime buffs, ââ¬Å"CSIâ⬠fans, and fans of courtroom dramas should also be targeted with advertising and scheduling as much as possible as it is hoped that this demographic will also prove fruitful for ââ¬Å"The Pubic Defenders. â⬠The hook for taking viewers out of the competitionââ¬â¢s time-slot is ââ¬Å"The Public Defendersâ⬠no-holds-barred romanticism coupled with its no-hold-barred realism: the PDââ¬â¢s love hard, they play to winâ⬠¦ but they lose just as often and their clients pay the price. Airing this program will allow the network to not only capture the targeted audience but hold them for each and every episode. It will be the talk of the campus, the office and coffee shops everywhere. Those that miss these episodes will be looking to see when the reruns will be airing.

The eNotes Blog Isaac Newton and the Cat FlapFail
Isaac Newton and the Cat FlapFail Isaac Newton Scientist Extraordinaire. à Figured out the laws of physics and composed the law of universal gravitation. à Designed an Orbital Cannon,à a thought experiment about a super weapon that, given enough gunpowder, could knock theà Earth off its orbit.à Newton, who composed the Three Laws of Motion. Newton, the Father of Calculus defeated by you guessed it A CAT. Nothing throws off your deep thought process quite like this: Surely, the man who vastly improved the telescope could solve this simple problem! If you think this, you surely have never met a Determined Feline. Like Nerds Immemorial, Newton was a single guy. No marriages, no girlfriends. But he did have cats; cats who care nothing about scientific inquiry, unless it is a careful gauging of how much food is left in the feeder before Panic and Rioting should ensue (answer: Let X à = Anything below 1/2 of the dispenser). Cats who want in. Cats who want out. Cats who want to stand in the middle of the threshold, à making up their minds. Legend has it that one day, Newton had had enough of scratch-scratch-scratch-MEOW-Scratch-SCratch-SCRatch-SCRATCH and called a carpenter to his home. Newton asked for two holes to be cut in his front door, a large one for his mama cat and a little hole for à her kittens. à Newton, whose Westminster Abbey tombstone declares that there has existed such and so great an ornament of the human race, nonetheless could not figure out that the second hole for the little ones was superfluous. The kittens, of course, à just followed their mother through the larger hole. Is the story true? According to a contemporary of Newtons, it is indisputably truethat there are in the door to this day two plugged holes of proper dimensions for the respective egresses of cat and kitten.

A response to a book called the emergence of the church By A Patzia Essay
A response to a book called the emergence of the church By A Patzia - Essay Example As part of that background he describes Judaism as it was in first-century Palestine as well as describing what life was like in the rest the Roman empire in general with a well presented exposition of what the Bible says about the growth of Christianity. The early church gained new recruits and spread over a greater geographical despite official persecution after Rome was burnt down, and Nero blamed the Christians for doing so. The books sources are pretty strictly biblical: the Didache is dated at or beyond 100 (p.99), and discussed only at the fringe, and the clearly first-century ROTAS square. In terms of evidence about the development and the eventual emergence of the early church as a distinct religion that was able to spread throughout the Roman Empire not mentioning the ROTAS square is arguably a serious omission. The ROTAS stone was actually found buried in the remains of Pompeii, being buried under the vast amount of waste products produced by the disastrous volcanic eruption of AD 79, and does not figure in this book. The ROTAS stone gives details of the early Christian presence in Pompeii, though of course nobody actually survived the volcanic eruption. Even if not mentioned anywhere else in his book, Patzia does not go into detail about the stone when discussing whether or not there were first-century churches in the Italian peninsula outside of Rome. Although it is not surprising that Patzia would want to concentrate upon the early churchââ¬â¢s beginnings in Rome given its later importance for the Christian religion.1 If description and discussion of what the Bible says about the early Church is what youre looking for, this is as good a book to choose as any other. If you want too find out about the emergence and also the development of the early church from non-biblical sources then buy, or burrow another book on the early church.2 The ambience is distinctly Fuller, and here and there this brings up

Bioethical Research on Stem Cells Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Bioethical Research on Stem Cells - Essay Example Bioethics is a study that deals with all the ethical questions raised due to biological and medical researches and advancements and attempts to answer those questions and satisfy the masses. It also deals with the effect of these biological and medical advancements on the correlation of these fields with other social aspects of life like religion, politics and other social sciences. It talks about the responsibility of the government, the religious leaders, the sociologists and other social figures in regulating and taking notice of any controversial and/or disputed biological or medical issue prevailing in the society. It strives to provide proper arguments and debates to satisfy the concerned and to provide evidence for the importance of the said issue as well as to prove the relevance and unavoidability of the process to make sure that the end result and the eventual achievement is worth the sacrifice.1 Bioethics not only deals with issues related to humans, human rights and research on human issues but also emphasizes on the importance of animal rights and issues related to these non-human species. The examples of the issues related to animals are many, the prime issue being animal testing. This basically concerns the correlation of Bioethics with the animal rights foundations etc and emphasizes on the fact that animals are living beings that cannot be used just like a thing to be tested upon. The bioethical argument to that, however, would be that these tests on animals are conducted to make sure that the complex medicines, remedies and surgical procedures for solving critical health problems related to humans are working efficiently and cause no harm to human life.2 The issues that Bioethics deals with range very widely. It deals with the relationship and effects of biological, especially medical researches with the social issues prevailing in the society, however, these issues can range from being totally based on social grounds like the issue of suicide to being based on complex medicinal grounds like genetics and their effects and influences on the society and people living in it. Having said this, let's observe how vast the bioethical issues can be. Some of the common issues that Bioethics deals with would be: Suicide Infertility Genetic Modification and Gene therapy Cloning (Human and Animal) Abortion Euthanasia (Human as well as Animal) Animal Rights Human Testing Animal Testing Stem cell Research Parthenogenesis Genetic Engineering, etc Recently, the research on stem cells is being questioned on the bioethical grounds quite a lot. First, let's look at what stem cells are and what their function actually is. Stem cells are those cells that have the ability to renew or rejuvenate themselves through mitotic divisions and can transform into differentiated specialized cells of a large variety, however, the extent to which a stem cell can differentiate into a more specialized form varies greatly from one stem cell to another. These stem cells are found in almost all multicellular organisms (organisms having many cells and differentiated cell types for different bodily functions), however, when talking about
